At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of summer, we remember them.

What do we do with love, however complicated, once there is no person to share it with? At Mourning Sun, we believe our loved ones - and their loss - become a part of who we are. We move forward with each new sunrise, but we don't move on.

Wherever you are in the grief process, recent or years passed, we're here to help you take the next steps. Mourning Sun is not therapy. It is our goal to create a supportive group atmosphere for guided individual healing.

We are proud to host virtual retreats during the difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic. See our events page for more information. Wherever we meet (even if remotely), the space becomes a sanctuary during our time together... a place of gentle warmth and safety. All emotions are welcome, accepted and 'normal.'

Group activities are always optional, with space and resources for individual reflection as well. We encourage you to try something new. The goal is to find what works for you, and give you tools to take home as you continue your journey.

ACTIVITIES

YOGA

A little movement to get the blood flowing can work wonders, especially when it's guided by the care of our amazing yoga instructor, Sarah. She emphasizes self care and taking time to tune into your body. Her soothing tone (and occasional vocals) will help you to feel focused and at peace - even if only for a few moments.

ART THERAPY

Sometimes, words just aren't enough. Or maybe they're not your favorite form of expression. That's ok! Lauren encourages creativity, without any pressure to create the 'perfect' finished product.  Here, it's all about relaxing into the process. You may be surprised by what you bring home from the experience.

GUIDED MEDITATION
GUIDED MEDITATION

The word meditation can be scary and unapproachable. To some people, it even sounds boring. What we offer is more of a guided visualization to relax your mind and create internal space for healing.

READING & WRITING

Putting pen to paper can be very therapeutic as a way to move thoughts that are stuck, or perhaps even lost in the back of your mind. Rachael will provide several optional prompts to help process the unspoken. If writing doesn't appeal, we also bring a library to every event. You can look for inspiration and comfort in the words of others.

CANDLELIGHT MEMORIALS

Flames are symbolic when mourning the death of a loved one. At the same time, they can be their own meditative source of beauty. While we can't have open flames at all of our events, we always try to incorporate some form of candle-lighting.

GROUP DISCUSSIONS

For those who are interested in delving deeper into their experiences with grief, our licensed psychotherapist, Rachel, leads an inviting group discussion. Everyone has a chance to be heard. Listening can also lead to moments of personal growth, and group bonding.

HEALTHY EATING

Food is what sustains us in life. Yet, when we're consumed by death, cooking and eating can sometimes feel like burdens. Alexandra will share recipes, tips and tricks to help get you back on track. Part of the discussion will include ways in which food can impact our moods.

FUTURE GOALS

We want everyone to return home with new goals for the future, even if it's as simple as making dinner or calling a friend. OUR GOAL for the future of Mourning Sun is to create a permanent location. We want to offer year-round support, including additional activities like hiking, massage, acupuncture, and financial advising.
